A judge is allowing an expedited hearing on whether the project will continue and as that happens, people who live near that site are preparing to leave. CLEVELAND COUNTY, N.C. (WBTV) - Wednesday was a day long in the making for the Catawba Nation tribe of South Carolina as leaders broke ground on land in Kings Mountain to build a new casino resort. Local leaders, attorneys and Catawba Nation Chief William Harris all say the casino is happening - and it’s happening fast. The Catawba want to build the Two Kings Casino Resort in Kings Mountain, which is about 35 miles west of Charlotte. The lawsuit was filed by the Eastern Band of the Cherokees. They have operated their own casinos in western North Carolina since 1997. The Catawba Nation and the state of North Carolina signed a compact Jan. 22 which allows the state to share in revenues generated by the Two Kings Casino Resort, which is planned for Kings Mountain.
